This page sets out exactly what Underwrite does and does not do, so customers, brokers, carriers, and regulators can evaluate our role precisely. It is displayed prominently in-app and in every Output that could be forwarded to a carrier or insured party, and is cross-referenced from the Terms of Service §1.4/§6 and the Acceptable Use Policy Addendum U1.

Underwrite, operated by Ellis Intelligence LLC, is a software vendor. Underwrite is not a licensed insurance producer, broker, agent, surplus-lines broker, or advisor in any U.S. state or jurisdiction.

What Underwrite Does

  • Ingests prior-year cyber-insurance renewal questionnaires that the Customer chooses to upload
  • Ingests security posture documents that the Customer chooses to upload
  • Maintains a reference library of carrier-questionnaire templates compiled from publicly available carrier information
  • Generates draft narrative content and formatting artifacts based on the Customer's inputs and the template library — organized to the Customer's own inputs, never a carrier-vs-carrier or coverage-vs-coverage comparison
  • Provides workflow tooling (multi-client dashboards, approval routing, audit trail) for MSP Customers managing renewals on behalf of MSP Clients

That is the scope.

What Underwrite Does NOT Do

Underwrite does NOT:

  1. Place insurance. We do not bind any policy, accept any application, or solicit any insurance on a Customer's or MSP Client's behalf.
  2. Negotiate insurance. We do not communicate with carriers, brokers, or underwriters on a Customer's or MSP Client's behalf about terms, coverage, premium, or any aspect of an insurance transaction.
  3. Sell insurance. We do not receive commission, override, contingent compensation, or any other form of insurance-related remuneration from any insurer, broker, or third party. Our only revenue is software subscription fees paid by Customers.
  4. Solicit insurance. Outputs of the Service are not solicitations for insurance, recommendations for specific carriers or policies, or representations that any policy is suitable for the Customer.
  5. Provide insurance advice. Outputs are research aids and drafts. We do not advise on coverage, premium, carrier selection, policy interpretation, or claims.
  6. Act as a fiduciary. We owe Customers software-vendor obligations under our Terms of Service, not fiduciary duties.
  7. Transmit Customer Data to carriers. We do not send Customer Data or MSP Client Data to any insurance carrier, broker, or aggregator. The Customer (or the MSP Customer on its MSP Client's behalf) is the party that interacts with carriers.
  8. Maintain producer licenses. We have no individual or business insurance licenses in any state. We have not applied for any.
  9. Hold premium funds. We do not handle, escrow, or hold any insurance-premium funds.
  10. Carrier or coverage comparison. We do not generate carrier-vs-carrier comparisons, coverage-vs-coverage comparisons, or any output ranking, scoring, or recommending among carriers or policies. Formatting and drafting artifacts organize the Customer's own inputs against a carrier's template; they are not comparative advice.

Why This Disclaimer Is Paired With Hard Scope Limits

A disclaimer alone does not decide state DOI producer-licensing exposure — regulators look at what the company actually does, not just what it says. This disclaimer is paired with, and never a substitute for, hard scope limits: no carrier-vs-carrier or coverage-vs-coverage comparison (above), no coverage advice (above), and no broker-channel go-to-market partnerships — no referral, white-label, or reseller relationships with insurance brokers, producers, agents, or carriers.

Engage a Broker for Insurance Decisions

For any binding insurance decision — buying, renewing, or modifying a cyber-insurance policy — engage a licensed broker, producer, or agent in your jurisdiction.

Underwrite's draft narratives and formatting artifacts are starting points for your conversation with a licensed professional. They are not substitutes for that conversation.

Customer Obligations

Customers and MSP Customers agree to:

  • Not represent to any carrier, broker, insured party, or third party that Underwrite acts as a producer, broker, agent, advisor, or fiduciary
  • Not represent that Outputs were prepared or endorsed by a licensed insurance professional unless independently true
  • Not hold Underwrite, or Underwrite's Outputs, out as risk-management counsel: Underwrite is document-drafting software, not a substitute for licensed risk-management, brokerage, or insurance advice, and any risk-management or risk-reduction service the MSP Customer separately offers its MSP Clients is the MSP Customer's own undertaking, not Underwrite's
  • Preserve the "Generated by Underwrite — not insurance advice; consult a licensed broker" footer or watermark on Outputs (subject to tier-specific removal rights per documentation)
  • Engage a licensed broker or producer for any binding insurance decision

These obligations are part of the Underwrite Terms of Service.

Per-Tenant + Per-Client Isolation

Tenants cannot access another tenant's data. Within an MSP tenant, each managed client's corpus is isolated from every other client's corpus. Database queries enforce both tenant and company scoping filters at the helper layer.

Audit Log

Every generation, edit, approval, export, login, and evidence upload is logged. Audit-copy exports of generated questionnaires retain the per-tenant invisible watermark even when carrier-facing exports omit it.
